Feminism: A Boon or A Bane?

There are a lot of misconceptions about feminism. Many people believe that feminists want to control the world and put men down which is absolutely absurd. The core belief of feminism is EQUALITY.

It's normal to have such kind of misconception about feminism for a pea-sized brain. Even entertainers like Kareena Kapoor Khan stated in one of her promotional events that she is not a feminist, she only believes in equality.

And others who maybe know the actual meaning of feminism doesn't like to address this in public. WHY? Because it can hurt the emotion of our patriarchal society and as a result, they will lose their fans (anti-feminist fans).

Not only entertainers there are millions of people who do not support this idea. Many of us grow up into a proud anti-feminist, it's either because they are brainwashed by this patriarchal society or they just wanna look cool or desirable (Only because you haven't faced it 'cause you are privileged enough, doesn't mean it's not there).

Some of us are actually living the feminist life but are so afraid to declare it. Who wants to face so much hate and judgment daily.

Confused?

What I mean is that if a woman calls herself a feminist she is considered as a man-hating feminazi, a pseudo-feminist, and uptight. She has to bear all the trolling, insults, and not all men are the. same.
She is looked at in a bad light. Nobody wants to deal with such negativity every day.

Why are we so entrenched in patriarchy that we cannot envision life beyond it?

"The more education I received, the more aware I became, the conversation on feminism changed. The problems of underprivileged women became nothing more than just facts and figures on paper. The feminist discourse became more nuanced and we moved on to talking about issues such as socialization, subtle messages of discrimination, rape culture, glass ceilings, etc. So the focus of my feminism was more oriented towards the privileged, urban, educated women who were stuck in traditionalist roles while having modern mindsets." - Taraasha Chopra

Believe it or not, it's true. Whenever we hear the word feminism a few things just pop in our mind like payscale difference, women's empowerment, a married woman who wants to work but cannot because of her orthodox family, and domestic violence.
Rarely, things like bride burning, rapes of underprivileged by a privileged, pop into our mind.

If we won't stand for those, only because it's not our issue then we will be equally responsible for this patriarchal society.

We need to explain the core belief of feminism to those who are uninformed. We need to fight the oppression. And women's empowerment should not be only limited to privileged women.

Now, remember we need to fight against the oppressors because not all men are the same.
